What is Animal Chiropractic?

Animal Chiropractic is a field of animal health care that focuses on the preservation and health of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

Why do I need any animal chiropractor?

Because the nerves in the central and peripheral systems of the body control everything that happens in your horse, anything adversely affecting the nervous system will have detrimental effects that can resonate throughout the whole body. The command centers of the nervous system are the brain and spinal cord which are protected by the spine which includes a framework of bones (vertebra), ligaments, muscles, and nerves. If the biomechanics of this framework become dysfunctional, they can interfere with the performance of the nerves that are branching off of the spinal cord and running to all of the muscles and organs throughout the body. With this interference, your animal can lose normal mobility and motion; resulting in things like stiffness, tension, pain, and sometimes organ dysfunction.

What might I see that signals me that my animal could benefit from a chiropractic adjustment?

Symptoms of spinal fixation vary and may include visible pain and discomfort in standing or movements, muscle spasms, sensitivity to touch, lameness, gait abnormalities, and postural compromise or changes.

Why should I use an American Veterinarian Chiropractic Association (AVCA) doc to adjust my animals?

There can be many individuals out there that claim to do “animal adjustments”. However, without the proper training, they may or may not be helping to improve the function and biomechanics of your animals. The AVCA has a mission to promote quality in the animal chiropractic profession so you should be looking for a DVM or DC that is certified in animal chiropractic to ensure the best quality adjustments for your animals.
